"The most distinguished features of BSC in my opinion include the international curriculum, teachers, and student body. The emphasis on languages is highly unique. I also think the way writing and creative writing is taught from an early age is a hidden, or unsung feature. Being in the workplace today, I can attest to a great lack in writing ability particularly with young people. My daughter, at age 10, has a better vocabulary and writing ability than many of the 20-somethings applying for jobs."
"Our daughter is in full day nursery at the British School and she absolutely loves going to school everyday. Her eyes light up as she puts on her uniform (which by the way saves a lot of time in arguing over what to wear to school...) Both our daughter and we have made great friends and had a very positive experience. Oh, and did we mention that in between the fun that she has been having that our not-yet-four-year-old daughter has learned to read! We are impressed."
"Our family loves the British School of Chicago because of the wonderfully balanced and exciting school experience it delivers to our children. While our two children are very different from each another, the school and its amazing staff have expertly nurtured our kids to help them both achieve their own definitions of academic excellence, social confidence and artistic distinction. They are never bored and literally love going to school every day. The BSC is a truly wonderful place."
"Over the years at BSC, we have come to truly appreciate the international climate of the school. Our children have many multi-cultural friends and every culture is celebrated at BSC. Through friendships, daily lessons and special celebrations, our children are growing up with a world view. We have found the children and parents to be wonderfully friendly. As a parent, you can choose your own level of involvement--many parents enjoy volunteering in different ways. The parent body has always seemed to be a group of people genuinely committed to obtaining the best education for their children."
"My son gets up in the morning excited to go to school and often says that he "loves to learn." Even within classes teachers are able to tailor the instruction to the individual strengths and weaknesses of the child. A child who is good in mathematics has the chance to excel even if it outpaces their classmates. A child who has difficulty with a subject is given extra help to aid them in progressing with the rest of the class. My son thinks "learning is an adventure. The teachers always make it fun and interesting. You don't just memorize things. The teachers have a way of making you think."
"Although all the private schools I visited said they could customize their curriculum to meet a child’s specific needs, the only school that had a complete system in place to allow each child to move at his/her own pace was BSC. No child needs to slow themselves down and wait for the other children to catch up nor take on more advanced work then their capacity can handle and suffer emotional consequences due to their speed of learning. The expectations are high for the students but totally appropriate for each individual – each excels to do their best at their own individual pace."
"My husband and I moved to the Bell School district so that we could send our daughter to a great public elementary school. When her admission was delayed due to age requirements, we ultimately enrolled her at the British School of Chicago and I can honestly say that her public school "rejection" was a blessing in disguise. Our daughter was an early reader and continues to read at a level 2 years ahead of the expectation for her year group. I doubt we would be able to say this if she had been granted admission to the public school. What we love about the British School is the focus on the individual student and ensuring that each student is challenged in a manner that suits their learning ability and style across all areas of the curriculum. In addition, attention is paid to developing kind, respectful children who are aware of the world at large. It seems to me that such a strong and caring focus on the child can only result in great success."
"Great school! The leadership is intelligent and caring; they have a clear a vision for the future of the school as well as its student body. The faculty is knowledgeable and accessible and participates in all aspects of the educational and social environment. As parents our choice could not have been better, and this opinion is shared by our child!"
