Andrew Gilhooly

Secondary Learning Leader - Mathematics

Email Mr. A. Gilhooly

I was born in Sheffield, England and specialized in physics, chemistry and mathematics in school. I attended Warwick University and gained a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Fluid Dynamics.

I have always been interested in physical activity and whilst in school I participated in football, tennis, squash and rock climbing and I continued this interest in university where I rowed in many competitive events.

I have participated in many charity events including 'hitching' to Dublin and cycling from one English coast to another.

My previous employment includes working in industry and a theme park in New Jersey before I traveled around the world. I gained my teaching certificate from Sheffield University and was employed as a Mathematics teacher at the Minster School in Nottinghamshire, England.

I have always been involved with whole school life and I have organized and accompanied students to Paris and played regularly for the school staff football team.

As I enter my third year at the British School of Chicago, I continue to enjoy teaching Mathematics and Physics along with responsibilities for school assessment and being Head of the Mathematics Department.
