Brown, C.Teacher - Physical Education

Email Miss C. Brown

After graduating from the University of York St. John, where I studied a BSc HONS in Sport and Exercise Science, I went on to study my Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Physical Education at the University of Durham. I have been teaching for 8 years and within that time I have been given numerous opportunities. In 2007, I was promoted to Head of Year and organized and delivered the transition activities between primary and secondary schools. This enabled me to experience the pastoral curriculum and look further into progress and students’ academic achievements over the period of 3 years.

2009 saw me fortunate enough to be nominated for the North of England teacher’s award by 3 of my students and went on to win ‘Secondary School Teacher of the Year’ at a ceremony held in the North of England.

In 2010, I was promoted to Head of KS4 PE in a specialist Sports College where I raised achievement in examination courses by 35% in a 12 month period, raising results from 46% to 80+% with a 350 pupil cohort.

Dancing is my passion and has been since a young age, which led me to gain my dance teacher’s qualification through the British Association of Dance Teachers, as well as being a part of numerous theatrical productions including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Barnum and West Side Story.

I have taught for the last 7 years at a school in the North East of England, and it was here that I was able to develop my subject knowledge in PE. I took on new courses such as GCSE and BTEC PE whilst developing my teaching skills in a variety of practical sports. I was oversaw Dance at the school, and I ran six Netball teams across the age groups. In addition, I organized girls' sports and performing arts fixtures throughout the school year, and planned ski trips and other sports related activities abroad including Barcelona, New York, Norway and Holland.

I am looking forward to teaching at the British School of Chicago and I am very excited to meet all the pupils I will be teaching and their parents at the start of the school year.
