Year 3 TeacherI have been teaching for two years at my previous school in East London in one of the most multicultural places in the world! I thoroughly enjoyed working in such a rich and diverse community and thrived on the challenges and rewards that came with my appointment. Working with so many children for whom English is an additional language I trained in using sign-along, a child friendly sign language designed to help children develop their language skills. During my time there I was Year leader, art coordinator and mentor to new teaching staff, as well as being a Year 3 and 4 class teacher.
I grew up in the beautiful city of Exeter, spending much of my time outdoors in the wonderful Devonshire countryside and beaches. As a result of this I love being active and enjoy running and cycling. I attended Rolle College, University of Plymouth where I trained as a teacher for four years and received my BE.D (Hons) in primary education with a specialism in science.
I am passionate about travelling and gaining experience from a range of cultures and I have been fortunate enough to teach in SUNY Fredonia New York in 2007 gaining an international teacher’s qualification. I also enjoyed a short teaching exchange in The Gambia where I continued to develop my love of teaching around the world.
For me, teaching is about providing children with a stimulating, safe and challenging environment, preparing them for the wider world and learning beyond school education. I enjoy the creative curriculum as a means of bringing learning to life and I am extremely excited to be joining the team at the British School in Chicago and working with the Brilliant Bears!
