Kathryn Horton
Business Manager
I was born and raised in Wales, UK . After I finished high school, I trained as a Therapeutic Radiographer for two years. I then decided on a change in career and joined the HSBC Bank and worked there for twelve years with two breaks to have my two children, who are now 23 and 19 years of age. In 1989 we went to Vancouver Island, Canada for a year while my husband was on a Headmaster-Exchange programme. We enjoyed that experience very much.
In 1996, I went to work for our local high school, which had 1700 pupils. After working in the General Office and assisting the Examinations Office I went to the Finance Office where the Bursar in anticipation of her retirement trained me. However my husband then applied for the post of Headmaster of the British School of Chicago and in August 2001 we left Wales to come and live in America.
Due to the continued growth of the school since joining as Business Manager in 2002 my role has also continued to grow and now I share the financial responsibilities with two other members of the office staff. Now I am also responsible with Mr Cerero our Site Manager for the maintenance and upkeep of the new school building as well as continuing as Business Manager and Office Manager. I feel very fortunate to have been in Chicago since the school opened and to have been a part of the exciting growth of the school and to see the opportunities that have become available both to students and to the staff. I am looking forward to the continued development of the British School here in Chicago and to continuing experiencing the adventure that is the British School.
