Rick Smith

Teacher - Year 4

Email Mr. R. Smith

I had an active upbringing in a small town in Lincolnshire, before moving to Cheshire to fulfill my aspiration to become a teacher. I attended University in Manchester where I studied for my degree.

Before moving to Chicago, I taught for 8 years in two different schools in Cheshire and Staffordshire, teaching children from Year 3 to Year 5. In those years I held responsibilities for Mathematics, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology and PACE. Also I was appointed Acting Deputy Headteacher for 18 months, which gave me an excellent insight into the strategic issues associated with running a school.

I have various interests, most of these involve sports. Currently I play soccer on a regular basis with other members of the BSC staff. I enjoy watching most sports and enjoy the live sports Chicago has to offer, especially the Chicago Bears who I have been a fan of since I was young.

Having joined the BSC in 2008, I have taught Year 5 for two years. During this time I have also been responsible for improving the learning in ICT and PACE, where I have introduced praise assemblies and further developed the house system. I have enjoyed my two years at the BSC and I am looking forward to my third year at the British School of Chicago with my new class, the Year 4 Jolly Jaguars.
