Teacher - Year 3Maisey, V

Email Miss Maisey

I grew up in Shropshire, a beautiful, rural county on the Welsh borders of England. After moving away from home at eighteen, I studied for an honours degree in Music at the University of London and then completed a Primary Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Manchester.

My first teaching post was in a large primary school in north London where I taught Year 4. A year later I moved to Oxford where I worked for Christ Church Cathedral School at the University of Oxford. During my six years there, I taught Years 3, 4 and 5, coordinated Junior English and was also Assistant Housemaster to twenty Cathedral choristers!

Whilst in Oxford, I completed a Masters degree in Education with the Open University, specialising in curriculum development and learning difficulties. I also undertook a Fulbright Teacher Exchange and had my first experience of Chicago, living in Wrigleyville and teaching 4th Grade in La Grange – an experience which has proven to be life-changing!

I am passionate about education and for the past three years, I have been Head of the Junior Department and a member of the Senior Management Team at an independent school in St Albans, a position which I have loved! In my time there, in addition to managing my department, I have produced plays, staged concerts and poetry recitals, organised sports’ days, activities weeks, established a programme of after-school activities and refurbished the Junior Department’s building!

Out of school I am a keen runner and enjoy keeping fit as well as singing and playing the piano and clarinet.
