Justine Bricheno was educated in both the UK and USA while growing up, and graduated from Worcester College with an honors degree in Music and Education.
She began her musical studies at the age of three on the piano and was tutored by Jeanne Farewell, a young New York concert pianist, while living in Connecticut. Justine has fond memories of seeing Jeanne perform both in the USA and UK and was inspired to enter musical competitions at a young age herself, through the National Federation of Music Clubs in America and later with the National Federation of Music Festivals in England. While abroad Justine also began studying the clarinet, joining the school band and county youth orchestra as well as competing at national level music festivals. She attained Grade Eight on both instruments through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, with the clarinet being her primary instrument of study at degree level. Justine also took up hand bell ringing at university and performed as a member of a hand bell group at local events. Turning down a Masters Degree in Musical Composition at City University in London, she instead began her first teaching post at a small primary school in the New Forrest and then moved abroad to teach at a British school in Dubai. There Justine began playing the saxophone and performed regularly with the band Graffiti, earning a regular spot on Battle Of The Bands where as a guest judge, adjudicated student rock bands along with fellow local musicians.
Justine currently leads learing in the Foundation, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two departments as Primary Learning Leader at the British School of Chicago. She is very much looking forward to continuing with the post of Director of Music at the British Music School of Chicago, working with tutors and parents to ensure students are given the best learning environment in which to develop and hone not only their musical skills, but also their love of music.
