Parent Involvement

parent involvement
At the British School of Chicago we value the involvement of our parent body within the school. For this reason we make it a priority to include parents as much as possible within the learning environment. We believe in keeping parents informed of and included in students' learning and curriculum.

Consultations are held four times a year with the teachers, parents and students to review the learning which has taken place and to discuss the upcoming targets for development appropriate to the individual student. Two shortened reports and two longer narrative reports keep parents and students informed of progress during the year.

Parents also have a variety of committees they can join at the beginning of each school year. Some committees have an ongoing responsibility, for example, the year group committees, and others will focus on special areas of interest, for example, the transportation, lunch program or social media committees.

We also invite our parents into the school to participate in a lesson, which provides an opportunity to see their student's learning environment first-hand. The favorite activity of our parents is being a 'Mystery Reader'! Parents come to the school and surprise their son/daughter's classroom by coming in and reading their favorite book!

BSC also invites parents in for special events such as 'International Day' to speak with students about their international backgrounds. Field trips are another fun way for parents to take part in school life.
