The house system is a whole school approach to self-motivation, team building, camaraderie and friendly competition. It divides all children ages 5 - 12 into houses; Washington (red), Athens (blue), London (green) and Paris (yellow).
As members of their individual houses, children are encouraged to strive towards earning house points for their house, participate in spirit events and competitions, and play a part in social events; all of which are aimed at promoting a sense of team solidarity and inclusion. Each house is led by a Year 6 Captain, and 3 Vice Captains from Years 3-5, who represent their house in a number of events over the year. These individuals are annually voted for by their house peers.

Children can earn house points at any time, which can be awarded by any member of staff. They are given out to children who display excellent examples of; behaviour, learning, presentation, social skills and homework. The children individually collect house points and earn certificates upon fulfilling a point quota: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and lastly Headmaster's certificates. In addition to these individual awards, children’s house points are also tallied collectively for their house. Each week, the House Cup is awarded to the house with the most house points; moreover, a certificate is awarded to the House of the Term and House of the Year.
Having a competitive spirit is a fundamental part of the House System. Throughout the year, there are a number of competitions and events for all children to participate in, as well as some competitions just for selected children, such as the Captains. Every term, children are encouraged to take part in a competition involving children completing a house related project at home. Winners are selected for each competition and receive house points, certificates and prizes for their efforts.
In order to promote inclusion and solidarity within the houses, a number of social and philanthropic events take place throughout the year, encouraged to develop the children’s sense of belonging and social skills, as well as their moral and community awareness. Such ‘Spirit Events’ range from lunch dates, to dress up days, to charity events; all of which are designed to be thought-provoking, sociable and fun. Children are encouraged to take part in these events and not only identify themselves as part of their house family, but also identify themselves as a part of their wider community and the world at large, learning to appreciate their place within it and the role that they can play in making a worthy and positive contribution.
